Janmashtami - Story & Significance

“Celebrating the divine playfulness of Lord Krishna.”

📖 Story & Significance

Janmashtami marks the birth of Lord Krishna, an avatar of Vishnu known for his wisdom, mischief, and compassion. Celebrated with devotion, it recalls Krishna's childhood exploits, teachings from the Bhagavad Gita, and his role as a guide to righteousness.

The day inspires lessons about duty, devotion, and the celebration of life through song, dance, and devotion.

🎉 Traditions & Customs

Devotees observe fasting, sing devotional songs, and reenact episodes from Krishna's life through Raslila performances. Temples are decorated, and midnight celebrations mark the exact hour of Krishna's birth. Communities also organise Dahi Handi events where teams form human pyramids to break curd-filled pots, symbolising Krishna's playful nature.
